Care is Care of

Care is Care of is a series of performances made in collaboration with Heather Lyon and misael soto during our Poor Farm residency, and for Art in Odd Places (AiOP) 2024: CARE in New York.
14th Street, NY October 19th 2024
Wearing an IS Dress and an OF Dress, Heather Lyon and I collected and stitched texts related to intimacy and boundaries into extended garment labels. As performers we wrapped and unwrapped these labels around us, binding and unbinding ourselves to each other. These ribbon-like labels sometimes trailed behind us as we walked, or were used as blindfolds, and at points got tangled up between us as we danced. misael soto’s presence provided another layer of entanglement through their gaze and lens of recording. Our movement was a continuum from the east end to the west end of 14th Street, with public recitals for pedestrian audiences across the three days of the festival.
Care is a continuum. Care is cumulative.
